Meet: The Imaginative Engineer and His Museums
Yaron Meiri, a doctor of Middle Eastern history and a specialist in Arabic literature and history, who recently visited Lithuania, also visited the Gifted Center for the Education of Gifted Children, which was established according to the model of such centers operating in Israel. “A gifted child is gifted everywhere – both in Israel and in Lithuania,” emphasized Y. Meiri. “Their strength is the ability to see not only the surface, but to explore and understand much deeper. I can say that imagination is much more important than the acquired knowledge. We need to create a way to get into the thoughts of gifted children, into their heads, and not just give them knowledge. Of course, it is important to know how the Solar System works, but once such children have received knowledge, they will find a way to understand that operation themselves.” Gifted children, properly educated and guided, can become shapers of public opinion and inspirers. According to the interviewee, if you want to educate children, it is not enough to give them a fish, you need to give them a fishing rod and teach them how to catch fish.
