Israeli expert Prof. R. Leikin: a bored gifted child is a lost opportunity for a state’s breakthrough
The world-renowned expert in the education of gifted children visited Kaunas, the Gifted Center for Gifted Children of Vytautas Magnus University, where she, together with other foreign education experts, led a workshop for Lithuanian teachers entitled “Gifted Education: The Israeli Experience”. According to the professor, she was pleasantly surprised by the large participation of Lithuanian teachers, their demonstrated motivation and desire to improve.
“Teachers are a very important part of the system that helps gifted children, so it is great that there are so many people in Lithuania who want to better understand the challenges and opportunities of educating gifted children. Practice shows that not all teachers want to work with gifted children, as this requires additional efforts and the courage to admit that you do not know everything,” said Dr. R. Leikin.
Prof. Dr. Roza Leikin, Professor of Mathematics and Gifted Children Education at the Faculty of Education of the University of Haifa (Israel), says that Lithuania is moving in the right direction and can expect the first results of the work relatively soon. True, first of all, according to her, it is important to learn to notice gifted children and create a system in the state that would help them realize their potential.
